Q: Hi, I'm new here an-
A: First things first. Check out the forum rules.
http://www.nanedn.com/index.php?topic=19.0.
Q: How do I become a member?
A: First you click on the register tab at the top (
http://www.nanedn.com/index.php?action=register). Then you just fill out the form, and you are a member. Members can post comments, new topics, post polls and send PMs to their friends.
Q: PM? What's that?
A: PM stands for
Personal
Message. You can send them to anyone and they can answer back. It's like a text message, but through the internet.
Q: How do I edit my profile?
A: You just go into the 'profile' tab, and click account related settings.
Q: What do I do if I want to find a topic or post, but I can't find it?
A: That's easy. All you do is you click the 'search' tab, and then you enter your search. You can also do a more advanced search if you click on the small link underneath the search box.
Q: What is a member title?
A: Well, a member title is your special 'tag,' or rank. Administrator, Moderator, and Global Moderator are all reserved for staff members, whereas there are other member titles that some people can have. These are things such as 'Worthy of a Better Title Than This,' and such.
Q: Cool. How can I get one?
A: Well, there are several ways that you can get one:
1. You can get one randomly when I might be passing them out to anyone who wants them or not. Hehe.
2. You can do something drastic for the WR community. This can be a good thing or a bad thing.
3. You can have been a member on the forum for a while. You have to have contributed to the Write Right community, or just have a high post count.
Q: What's with the news?
A: The news shows something that is going on on the forums. If you want something special on the News then you can post it on the wr community board, or you can PM me.
Q: What are the contests for?
A: Well, they're just for fun. You can contribute to them, and you can win a prize.
Q: What is Karma?
A: Karma is related to your post count. If you have a positive Karma, then that is a good thing. Vice versa if you have a negetive Karma. Sometimes you can achieve extra Karma by doing special things for the forum. If you wanted to ask someone on this forum a question, but you didn't want to ask a staff member, then you might want look for the member with the highest Karma, because he would most likely have the most experience on the forum. So basically the more Karma the better the user is, and the better the user knows the forum. Also, you can sometimes use your Karma to gain special permissions, as well as a few other things.
Q: I've seen some members have pictures and glowing text in their posts. How do they do that?
A: They used a language called BBCode. It's easy to learn. The buttons above the textbar when you're posting are BBCode abilities. For example, if you want to have text moving, click the icon with the moving M. It'll come up with:
[move][/move]
What the 'move' tag is is part of the code that tells the forum to move the text in between the
[move] and [/move] tags.
A complete list of functions are on
http://www.nanedn.com/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcrefAlso, if you would want to embed a YouTube video, put the
[youtube] and [/youtube] tags and put the address of the video in between.
Q: How do I embed a hyperlink in words? Whenever I do it, it doesn't work.
A: Well after you press the 'hyperlink' button on your post, you should have something that looks like this:
[url][/url]
You are supposed to place an '=' after the first [url, so that it is between the 'L' and the second ']'. Then you place the link. Then in between the ']' from the first '[url]' and the '[' of the second one, you place what you want the link to say (i.e. 'Parkour,' 'How to make a good Pizza'). And that is how it works. I hope it wasn't too confusing.
Q: What are 'Profile Awards?'
A: 'Profile Awards' are awards that are given to certain members for completing certain tasks and/or have done something special. You may view them on your profile summary. They are bold, underlined, and red. You may view other member's awards, too.
Q: Why can't I see the PM's that I've sent to my friends?
A: Well that's becuase you have to go into your 'Profile' tab, click on 'Personal Message Options' and checkmark the box that's labeled 'Save a copy of each Personal Message in my outbox by default.' Then you will be able to view your sent messages.
Q: I want to add something to the FAQs.
A: Just post it in the wr community board.
